My Mother used to take us 3 boys to the library regularly.

She took the Unsmiling lady at the desk
bags of Squash or tomatoes or potatoes or Beans.
Plums, persimmons, Apples, Nectarines,
Peaches too.

Then.

When one of us LOST a Book Under the bed for a few months.

And we Should have had to pay a big Late Fee Penalty.

This GRIM LOOKING Lady would Smile and say, “Forget it.”

We saved 100’s of dollars in Late
fees like this.
